The Altai Mountains are among the most wonderful places on our planet. The place of virgin nature excites the imagination with its magical rock signs, stone statues and amazing mounds still keeping the fabulous secrets of ancient civilizations.
The nature reserve Katunskiy was formed on the 25th of July in 1991 on the territory of Ust-koksa region in Altai Republic. It is located in the highlands of the Altai Mountains, on the Katun Ridge, and covers the area of 151000 ha. The territory adjoins Mt. Belukha (4506 m), the highest peak of Siberia and a UNESCO world heritage site.
The nature reserve Katunskiy is included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves under UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB).
